Alone and far away from her broken home Evelyn wanders around the strange place that will save her family. After her arrival Evelyn decided to walk around alone with her thoughts and to take in her new surroundings. This didn’t last too long because of the scorching heat and her poor choice in outfit which consisted of jeans, a long sleeve work shirt, and worn down black converse and her wavy auburn hair clung to back of her neck from sweat. Growing more and more annoyed at her sweaty state Evelyn decided she needed to get cooled off and fast. After walking in the summer heat she comes to a pond, grateful that it is a cool place to sit and think Evelyn makes her way to the waters edge. She takes off her converse and rolls up her jeans and places her sore sweaty feet into the refreshingly cold water. As she relaxes her mind wanders to the place she just left behind. Evelyn thinks of her younger sisters playing in the fields while their father works off the hangover he gained from a night at the bar and how whatever woman he picked up that night is wandering out of the house disheveled and wearing the same clothes as the night before. Suddenly Evelyn felt that all to familiar sting of tears building in her Emerald eyes. Ever since her mom died all Evelyn could do was cry but never around her sisters because she had to be strong for them. As the tears began to fall down her face she said to herself “ No, Evelyn you will not cry, no more crying from now on I’m in a new place and I have to make things better for myself and my sisters.” Evelyn knew that this was her only chance at saving her family from reckless father. With this Evelyn took the sleeve of her plaid work shirt and whipped her tears but not even bothering with the black rings around her eyes from the mascara that had run from crying. Then she just continued to sit and enjoy the coolness of the water on her legs and warm feeling from the sun and the new sense of hope this moment brought her.

The weather here was such a nice change compared to the dreary Washington rain and Jake grinned at the thought. Since his arrival at Circo yesterday he'd been busy exploring every nook and cranny he could possible shove his nose into. The heat of the day was now upon them and as the first beads of perspiration hit him Jake decided it was high time he took to getting familiar with the watering hole. Quickly undressing and yanking on his swim shorts Jake let his goggles hang around his neck as he headed toward the promise of a nice swim. The ground was hard and dry under Jake's bare feet but he paid it little mind and simply hurried past unfamiliar but friendly faces. It'd been quite a while since Jake had been able to enjoy a good swim. His old school offered no opportunities of a swim team and his aunt and uncle would have never approved either way. The smell of the cool water reached the raven haired male before he actually caught sight of it and a wide grin split his face. Of course it wasn't the ocean Jake grew up swimming in but it was a body of water and that's good enough for him. It took him only a second to snap his goggles in place over his eyes and just as the pool of water came into view the teen broke into a full on sprint and took a running leap into the inviting blue water. Jake's cannonball sent up large splashes that crashed against the shore of the water hole and he resurfaced, shaking his hair like a wet dog. Jake's green eyes widened at the sight of someone sitting at the water's edge that he'd failed to notice.

As Evelyn attempted to ease her stress through silence, the sound of splashing water had suddenly snapped her from tranquility. Her emerald green eyes traced from the clear azure sky to the now unsettled water. There, swimming in it, was a young adult about her age. This man was obviously enjoying his swim, so much so that she was afraid to bother him. She did not desire to be rude however so she voiced a soft “Hello.”. Was she loud enough? The man probably was too occupied to hear her. “What’s your name?” Well, this question might get them somewhere. Evelyn repositioned herself to better face the man, crossing her legs to appear more stable. She then wondered if her makeup was still present from her previous crying. Oh, she hoped that she didn’t look a mess for this guy. Maybe this guy was new to the circus as well. Maybe they could help each other. Who knows.

A faint hello reached Jake and he blinked away his surprise and offered the figure a cheerful smile. "Hey!" He shouted, lifting one arm from the water to wave excitedly. The idea of a new friend sounded in Jake's mind and he swam toward the shore. "What's your name?" The voice spoke up again. Jake's nose crinkled up in thought as he tried to identify the speaker's gender as he moved closer. His swimming goggles blurred everything outside of the water and without his glasses he was incredibly near-sighted. Pulling himself from his thoughts Jake stopped a little ways away from the bank of the water hole. "The name's Jake. What's yours?" Jake returned the question. Letting his goggles fall around his neck and brushing his dark hair away from his face he smiled at the stranger, or as he now saw girl.

Evelyn saw that she was being waved at and smiled a little and waved back. As the man came closer to her she noticed that her makeup had been ruined from her earlier crying. She quickly grabbed for shirt to clean up face a bit trying to make herself a bit more presentable to her possible new friend. Then Evelyn noticed that she was being asked a question she quickly replied " Hi Jake. My name is Evelyn". Evelyn was glad that at least he was friendly. " I'm new here it is nice to meet you." she said unsure if he was from here or new himself.

Jake watched the girl wipe at her face and bit his lip trying to decide whether it was acceptable to ask a person you only just said hello to if they were alright. Deciding against it for now Jake let his smile stick in place as he talked. "Really? I'm new here too! Like as in just a couple of days ago. I haven't really met anyone else. Actually, this is my first time talking to someone since they said I could stay and work here." He pause mid-rant and dropped his gaze down at the water. "Sorry, I talk too much I guess. I don't really, "Jake made air-quotes beside his head on his next word for the sake of irony. "socialize much." Jake looked back to the girl on shore with and gave an apologetic sort of half-smile. "It's nice to meet you too by the way. Maybe we could be friends?" Notes: Meep sorry if its not much to work with Word Count: 154 Music Muse: How You Remind Me

Evelyn smiled at the prospect of having a new friend that was new to this place as well. "I would love to be friends." she said tucking some loose strands of hair behind her ear. Evelyn could not believe her luck finding someone this nice so quickly. " Oh don't worry about talking too much. I do the same thing but mostly when I'm nervous or excited. My mom used to say." Evelyn cut her self off for a moment realizing that she was talking too much. " Oh sorry I guess now I'm the one who is talking too much." she said looking down at the ground with a small grin. Evelyn raised up her hand to her eyes to attempt at shielding her eyes from the bright sunlight that was beaming down on her. While doing thing Evelyn said "So, tell me a little about your self" with much curiosity in her voice. Evelyn tried not to be rude when saying this be she was truly interested in her new friend's life and what his talent is.

Jake chuckled as Evelyn chattered just as excitedly as he had. It felt good to not be the only one who didn't know when to stop talking sometimes. He heard her ask to know a bit more about him and grinned holding one finger up. "Wait one sec." Jake took in a deep breath and puffed out his cheeks comically more than necessary. He winked playfully before ducking underwater completely once more then paddled over to the edge of the water where it met the grass. Jake scrambled up the shore and plopped on the ground beside his hopefully soon to be new friend.
"Hmm..a little about me.." He pondered aloud. "I'm 18 and I've got a little sister who lives up in Washington." Jake rubbed at the back of his neck and look at the wet ground under his feet. "I snagged a job here at Circo as an escape artist." He looked over at his companion. " Now Miss Evelyn," Jake's green eyes twinkled with mischief. "Tell me a little about your self." He parroted her voice and request right back at her.

Evelyn giggled as Jake made his way over to her in such a silly way. She listened attentively as he answered her question but could not help twirling a piece of her wavy auburn hair around her fingers. Once he had finished with his answer and asked about her self she could not help but feel a little shy she was raised not to boast about herself but for the sake of friendship Evelyn figured she could manage. " Well I'm 18 as well and I'm from Iowa and I have two younger sisters." She said a little too fast then she wanted. " I had to leave them behind and got a job here as a Contortionist" She said feeling more like her confident self.
