Abilities: Zero is basically a living key, in a way. Her gift is being able to open a portal to anywhere she wishes. America, China, Mars. Past, Present, Future. Any place and any time she desires, she can simply step through a portal. The catch? She has to know where she is going. But that's not a problem. What with TV and books, she can easily create the portal she requires. This makes her an invaluable asset to the Circo when searching for other oddities.
Appearance: Not one person has ever guessed her age correctly. With her height, a measly 4' 9", youthful bronze skin, and warm hazel eyes, at first glance some might assume she's younger than she truly is. And then they see her shoulder-length silver hair and the fact that she doesn't speak and immediately jump to far older. Neither, of course, are correct. In not for her ability, Zero would have aged and grown just like everyone else. Just like almost everyone at the Circo, Zero's powers have affected just about everything about her.
Including the rest of her body. While she looks fit enough from the outside, and jumps to the past have kept her from any true harm, her jumps to the future have left permanent marks on her body. When the weather is bad wherever she currently is, her entire body aches. Too big a jump, be it in time or in location, leaves her physically ill for many days. Does she ever complain though? Of course not. She deserves every instance of pain.
She normally tries to keep a low-profile when around people, nearly vanishing into shadows in her effort to keep from being noticed. Not that bod posture really helps with the aches and pains of her power.
Attire: Because Zero is able to jump through time and space, her clothes consist of things she's picked up along the way. Extremely mismatched and form fitting, they don't really help with the childish image she gives off.
Detailed personality: Zero gave herself her name many years ago, when she was a child in care of the Circo. If that doesn't explain her personality, nothing really will. She tends to walk through life as if nothing around her is real, and sometimes gives the impression that she is better than everyone else, but that honestly isn't the case. Zero truly and honestly feels as though she shouldn't exist in the world at any time or place. That she is an anomaly that never should have existed. It was this feeling that drove her from the Circo the moment her Ringmaster allowed her.
As mentioned before, and to be explained below, Zero is a mute by choice. This came from both the life-changing event to be described and her powers themselves. With the ability to go back in time comes the possibility to change it, and that is something she is terrified of. If she wanted to, she could go back to the moment Hitler killed himself and stop him. She could stop the assassination of presidents. With a single word she could crush the spirit of a future revolutionary leader. So great is her fear that she will change her own future, she has trained herself into absolute silence. Very few get to hear her voice anymore, those who she holds in great esteem.
Those like Alistair, the current Ringleader of Circo. She has seen the future, she knows that he will not hold the title forever, and she knows that one day the Circo itself will fall, and yet this man is held with great respect. The same goes for Aveira, though Zero knows the dark things waiting for the albino in the future. Really, every person with any real power at the circus can normally get her to speak, if only her report.
Report. Yes, though she doesn't affect the Circo's daily life, a few of it's members owe their new home and life to this little girl. Her ability to walk through time and space has proven invaluable to the circus. Her job is simple, she is a Salvager. One of the best ones the Circo has, though she doesn't often bring people in. In an effort to atone for a childhood accident that wasn't her fault, as she travels she's on the look-out for oddities like her. Should she find them, and she has found a few, she simply returns to Circo with a time, place, and description. It's often because of her that the Ringmaster or other salvagers have been there the moment Oddities needed them most.
Birthplace: Salem, Massachusetts.
History: Unlike many oddities, Zero didn't know about her powers until she was around 11 or 12 years old. The reason they manifested is unknown, but the memory of it is branded in Zero's mind. She had been in school, talking with one of her friends. Like most teenagers, she was all full of energy and was actively telling her friend about how she wished a certain unliked girl would disappear. As if that was a trigger, she, at the time unknowingly, opened a portal and her binder suddenly disappeared from her arms.
Absolutely amazed by this occurrence, Zero began to play and explore her powers, which of course drew the public eye. Someone randomly disappearing in a hallway after a bad class was kinda hard not to notice. At the age of 15 the Circo swept her away, thankfully before any harm had been done to her or the town.
She lived, worked, and played at the Circo for two years without incident. Then, at the urging of a friend, she opened a portal to space. They wanted to see the stars from among the stars, and she hadn't thought that it would cause any harm. Normal teenage thinking. Nothing could touch her or her friends. Nothing could harm them.
And then her friend stepped a little too close, and got sucked inside.
From that day on, Zero stopped talking. As soon as she was 18, she left the circus and took her job as a Salvager. Nothing notable has really happened since.
