►You have to let it in
You don't bite your tongue off
Carter took a really deep breath and brushed his sweaty, orange hair from his face. He watched Artie snatch the ragged thing on the floor. Carter was so wrong, he was just annoyed, Artie didn't understand, he was so innocent. Carter had frightened him terribly, and not only that he had injured him. He would be bruised for a while! Carter pulled up his legs to his chin. He hadn't ever had teddies or stuffed animals, he had been hardened from the such. There we went time for child's play.
He felt Artie move near him, or he could hear him as he scuttled across the floor. He was relieved Artie wasn't running away to tell the admins. Carter blinked and turned his head to look at Artie. Artie tossed him the teddy. It landed in his lap. Carter picked it up gingerly, and held it gently in both paws. He didn't know what it was like to be attached to a stuffed animal. He examined it, as Artie talked. "I don't have a bear." Carter said softly, so softly it might be hard to hear. Carter was no longer furious and Artie no longer bothered him. "I understand."

He said blinking back tears. He wasn't going to cry in front of Artie. He looked up when Artie started explaining what a chimera was, it made him horribly sick. He was scared he was going to throw up. Carter became very serious, and he turned his body so he could look Artie in the eyes. "Artie. I need to talk to you about myself. I am not like you. I am not a chimera. I wasn't born in a lab like you. I was born in the world, into a family." His eyes steadily feel glazed and distant as he spoke. "It wasn't very nice at home Artie. I was hungry a lot, so I snuck out to find food. One night I snuck into a very big building." Carter tried to tell the story as simply and easiest as possible. "I didn't get out of the building. I blacked out, later I realized the people had knocked me out. Once they had me, I was the next big thing. They started with my head. I had my eyes gouged and scraped out." Carter shakily rose a hand and placed it over his eyes, the tears flowing freely now. "Then they ripped my ears off, and sewed new ones on. After that, I had the two slots drilled into my mouth. During this time I had DNA injections. Hundred and hundreds of them, and thousands of wires and chemicals. I had saber-tooth tiger DNA spiraled into me. I had growth spurts added so my fangs would grow, and then shoved into the slots. The fur came out all wrong though, it wasn't suppose to look like this." Carter said softly looking down at his hands. "I had claws grown and a tail added and little things. Most of the time I wasn't on sedatives, they were afraid if would mess up my brain. They waited until the pain knocked me out. When I looked like this, I was sent to fight against other creations that had failed, or just animals. I would fight everyday to the death. I wasn't allowed to die. I slept in cages and ate food from dishes. I grew use to the cold knife and the blinding, artificial lights. I didn't escape Artie. I was slowly dieing, it wasn't until the circus rescued me did I ever start living again. That's the only reason I grew angry when you mocked me." Carter watched silent tears fall to the ground, and he hung his head in shame a bit. He felt a tongue lick his cheek, and he smiled ever so slightly. “Do you cry because you don't like what you are now? Or because the memories are scary? Or...or m-maybe both?” Artie asked softly, “Please don't cry.” The story filled Artie's heart with such grief that he wanted his teddy-bear back so the familiarity would comfort him. But, that would mean taking the bear away from Carter...something that Artie's heart also told him would be wrong. Carefully, he grabbed the bear's left paw and stuck the right paw in Carter's hand. Each of them could hold the bear while the toy rested in the middle, acting like a bridge from Carter to Artie.
“I w-would tell you more about where I come from, but I c-can't remember too much,” he said, “When I was running away, something bit me in the back of the neck a-a-and I started to feel all drowsy.” The scientists couldn't afford their million dollar project to reveal billion dollar secrets that could possibly shut the facility down, could they? Not when a little injection into the base of the brain stem would loosen up all those ugly memories of his. A combination of a tranquilizer and a special chemical to induce memory lost had been shot at him, not to Artie's knowledge. “I can't...remember a lot of details, but I've never heard of any stories like your's.”
Even as he sat there and cried for his fellow experiment, the facility was looking for their million-dollar runaway. But as long as Artie remained with Circo, the chances of him being found by his creators were slim; they'd continue looking for him until enough time had gone by that surely, with no experience and little knowledge of the outside world, he was dead on the streets somewhere.
“You remind me of Frankenstein's monster, only a lot more sad. I w-wanted to hug him when I first read that story. I-I wanna...I wanna hug you too,” There had been no dry eyes during Carter's story; Artie was scrubbing the tears away and trying to hold in his cries. “Can I...C-can I hug you?”
Holding in his cries did help Artie gain something though: the hiccups.
“I'm-HIC!-Artie. What's-HIC!- your name?”

Carter looked over to Artie with wide-eyes. 'Yeah, maybe both."

He said softly still, his voice barley a whisper. He couldn't help but smile though, in such a time of emotional weakness at the teddy-bear. Artie held the tiny bear's paw, a bond forming between the two of them. Carter looked at the ground again, and puled his legs more under his chin, resting it on. In a click, the fangs slid out, draping over his knees, and digging into his legs. Sometimes the teeth slid out on their own, such as when he was upset or angry. It was a defense instinct built into his system. Carter tilted his head, his eyes narrowing. He couldn't remember much. His memories hazy and faded, and Carter put the puzzle parts together. They had probably drugged him to the point of wiping his memory. "How much of your memory, do you think you missed? You whole life could be fake." Carter gave a hollow laugh, full of bitterness. "Don't cry...little guy. Don't cry for me." Carter did something very much unexpected. He wrapped his arm around Artie, and gave him a small hug, and ran a hand through his hair, before pulling away. It was a gesture comfort and protection. In a way it answered Artie's question about being allowed to hug him. "My name is Carter."[/div] or foam at the lips ►As much as it's upsetting [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true][atrb=style, width:450px; height:500px; background-color:#f1f1f1; border: 4px solid #2f2f2f, bTable] ►TAGS Kiddie ►NOTES Feels. ►WORDS template by AERON of BTN! “I'm s-s-HIC-sorry!” he blubbered, still swiping at tears, “I didn't mean t-to be a cry baby.” Artie used the sleeve of his suit, tattered and dirty from the weeks he'd been running away, to soak up his tears. “It's just...that...” he said, “I-I can't help it.” Artie looped his arms around Carter and squeezed, but his hug was more dependent and needy than the one Carter had given. He cried into Carter's shirt, thus staining the fabric with dirt and sticky tears.
Luckily, the crying began to slow down as he found comfort through hugging Carter instead. He squished his face against the hybrid's shoulder and held position whilst he forced himself to take calming breaths. “Well, how many memories do you have?” he asked “I have about seven good ones. The-HIC-rest is kinda fuzzy...Seven is close to the memories you have, right? That's-HIC-normal, right?” Seven memories, a worn teddy-bear, and a heart designed to love unconditionally; that's all that Carter could work with.
