Full name: Artisan Kim (#365)
Nickname: Artie, Art
DOB/Age: 19
Gender: Male
Oddity: Chimera – a synthetic beast composed of two or more species
Abilities: Animal Mimicry: If he's observed (or read about) a particular type of animal and its abilities/habits, Artie will be able to copy them. This means that while he's in his human form, he may have the speed of a cheetah or lift 100x his body weight like the ants in your kitchen.
Animal Shifting: As one of the most successful chimeras of the century, Artie is capable of picking and choosing which aspects of an animal he likes. He can give himself the wings of a bat or the eyes of a hawk, for example. He can combine several animal species together and create a beastly looking monster. He can also completely shift into the animal of his choosing.
Appearance: Unlike many chimera, Artie looks as though he were any healthy young man...at first glance. His reddish-brown hair is thick and glossy, his skin clean and soft, his muscles leaned yet toned...It's only his right eye and the back of his pants that would clue you into the fact that he's out of the ordinary. The pupil of his right eye is slitted like a cat's, but yellow like a wolf's. His left eye is a gentle hazel. A small tail, most likely from a wolf, requires most of his pants to receive a small makeover with a pair of scissors.
Attire: Artie isn't too picky so long as his attire is comfortable for him to move in. If he could, he'd be wearing pajamas all year-round. You're more likely to find him in t-shirts and sweatpants than a stuffy old suit. He also hates socks, shoes, and hats, so you'll have to bribe him to get him to wear them. As far as accessories go, he's never seen without his trusted teddy-bear tucked under his arm. The medal, upon which his name has been imprinted, is safely tucked inside his bag...which has everything from dead rats to pocket encyclopedias.
Detailed personality:
Blessed with a calculating and analytical mind, Artie is capable of stripping his emotions from the equation when solving problems. This talent, to tear his feelings from possible solutions, allows him to think clearly. If given an assignment, Artie will find out the quickest, most efficient route of completion without personal preference getting in the way. His vast intellect also offers an uncanny gift of perception, allowing Artie to think several steps ahead of the crowd. That being said, it's too much work to be a genius. Access to this part of his mind requires concentration and focus, which is why he doesn't use this talent if necessary.
An easier part of his mind to slip into is the feral side, which is found in many chimera. There are only three things on Artie's mind when he reaches this stage: “Fight? Flight? And do you look like a good meal?” He's been known to attack friend and foe whilst in this state of mind. Most of the time, however, Artie is a cross between a wolf pup and a genius. He's a literal genius, tested to an IQ that would make Stephen Hawking gawk in jealousy. But at the same time...how smart can someone be who willingly plays fetch? Or carries a worn teddy-bear all the time? How is it possible that this creature, whom is territorial and fights for dominance, can do your calculus homework in your sleep? And most of all...is the kid asking you to scratch his ears the same one whose written essays contain a vocabulary that rivals Hawthorne? It appears that while Artie has an immeasurable intelligence, it appears that he simply chooses not to employ it to its full extent OR that his instincts have more control over him than his human side.
Artie always preferred to be a listener rather than a speaker. He prefers to be quiet, as it allows for better observation of his surroundings and peers. Such observation renders him an anti-fan of people like “elitists” and “posers”...and plain old “idiots”. It’s all too easy for Artie to see through their motives, thus revealing an ugly personality he prefers to avoid. As the white-coats used to say: “Artie is silent, but strong”.
However, the secret weapon of his mind is protected by his unassuming personality. You see, Artie is a total sweetheart: he’s compassionate and gentle in regards to actions and speech, stumbles over what little words he uses despite a vocabulary that rivals Hawthorne, becomes so preoccupied with thoughts that he can be klutzy with a capital “k”, and he’s highly affectionate towards all living creatures. One could argue that it’s the power of Artie’s love that drives his mind to such a cold, cruel extreme when in the face of adversity.
He is very playful, oftentimes hurting others by accident in unrestrained games.
Birthplace: MiraCruix Facilities (a publicly unknown, private company that works for the U.S. Government)
History:
*No memories before the age of thirteen*
Shattered Memory #1:
Simple commands. He'd been brilliant at simple commands. The best part about obeying the occasional “sit” or “stay” were the rewards that came afterward: live rabbit for him to hunt and tear apart, or a juicy stake thawed from the freezer. Content with the most beastly necessities, Artie didn't need much more than food to fill his mouth in the earlier years.
Shattered Memory #2:
Like any dangerous animal, the facility liked to keep him sedated. When he wasn't forced into parading his powers in front of white-coats, he was left glassy-eyed in his sleeping quarters to chew on the ear of a teddy-bear. What had he done to deserve the pills in the first place? The details are hazy, but he remembers playing rough with one of the white-coats and becoming upset when they didn't wake up.
Shattered Memory #3:
The first time he saw a book, Artie knew he couldn't live another day without them. Much to everyone's surprise, the quiet chimera had intelligence. White-coats began to slide magazines under the door to his sleeping quarters and were amazed to find, completely caught on camera, the chimera tearing out pages to create a collage on his wall. They watched him become curious about the outside world, evident as he ran his hands along the pictures of vacation spots he'd taped to the wall. The way he demanded books as rewards rather than food both worried and excited the scientists. Nevertheless, the amount of sedatives was upped.
Shattered Memory #4:
Playtime with the other “successful” chimeras hadn't gone well.
“What a stupid creature! Do you even talk?”
“At least he was designed to look nice. No scales or fur or anything!”
“Are you serious? Just look! They’re calling him the big success! The one chewing the teddy-bear!”
“Good point. But hey, last week’s big success died of heart failure.”
“Maybe this one's got brain damage.”
Artie looked up and had said: “I'm actually quite intelligible, I just prefer not to talk.”
He promptly went back to tussling with his teddy.
Shattered Memory #5:
What was this book called? The Dictionary? Pah, it lacked plot. Ah well, 600 pages in...might as well read the next 700.
Shattered Memory #6:
“I'm sorry about the teddy-bear, sir. He wouldn't put on the suit unless he was allowed to take it with him.”
Shattered Memory #7:
Lights that were too bright. Smells that were too strong. A stuffy suit that made him fidget. He hated it here. In fact, he had no qualms growling at the man that looped a medal around Artie's neck. He kept growling at that person, even as he awarded medals to all the white-coats lined up beside him.
The crowd soon demanded a demonstration of his bestial abilities, but Artie recited Shakespeare instead. The head white-coat, nervous that Artie wouldn't exhibit his hard work, reprimanded the chimera and took away the stuffed animal.
Everything but the taste of blood and adrenaline is a blur.
He remembers something hitting his head – or holding his head? A car? A bullet? Someone with a memory-repressing ability? Artie can't be too sure, but more memories will be added as he remembers them.
Present Day: Artie's too addicted to the taste of freedom to ever think about turning back. It's only a matter of time before Circo Phantasia finds this little stray.
Relationship status/Orientation: Single, straight
Additional information: Prone to diseases that only affect animals.
